About SEACI
SEACI is investigating the causes and impacts of climate change and variability across south-eastern Australia, developing improved short-term predictions for hydrological and agricultural applications.
SEACI is addressing key research questions through three linked research themes. Through these projects and their associated milestones, the program aims to deliver a holistic and better integrated understanding of climate change and climate variability across south-eastern Australia to support water managers and policy makers.
The SEACI geographical study area incorporates the Murray–Darling Basin, the state of Victoria and southern South Australia, including the Eyre Peninsula.
Program participants
SEACI is a collaboration between:
- Bureau of Meteorology
- CSIRO
- Australian Government Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency
- Murray–Darling Basin Authority
- Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment
CSIRO is the managing agency.
Steering Committee and Science Panel
A Steering Committee, comprising representatives of each partner agency, sets and monitors the strategic direction of SEACI. The Steering Committee is supported by a Science Panel, which provides advice on implementation of the initiative. Yearly work plans, which provide guidance and direction and establish milestones for each project, are developed by project leaders and approved by both the Science Panel and Steering Committee.
Annual Workshop
An annual science workshop is held at the end of each financial year to share research findings and coordinate research efforts between projects. This workshop is also used to develop work plans for the following year.
